• if you do not set up a transit card on your phone, you will not be able to buy public transit tickets / cards with a credit or debit card (the ticket machines at the stations do not have credit card slots)
• you will be able to use the money on these cards for almost all public transit (excluding high fee transit like the bullet train), convenience stores, some vending machines and at many other locations
